Today We Breath Our Own Waste

You can't airbrush air stagnation: air pollution and "particulate matter" shroud the view of Downtown from Germantown at Jeff St. this morning. My throat is burning this morning. How about yours?

  1. I hear ya! I went for a bike ride in frickin' Belle Mead yesterday because I thought it might be better than riding Shelby Bottoms near my house, and it was bad there. I got a headache, and quit earlier than I wanted. I can't imagine trying to ride downtown right now. Coming back, I saw the amount of trucks sitting there on the highway, and wondered how much better our air quality would be if the trucks didn't go right through town. Sure cars add a bunch too (and, admittedly, I didn't help it one bit by driving across town to go for a bike ride)- but how much more do all those trucks add?

  2. Yesterday at 9:00 a.m., I was coming down Shelby Ave. toward Downtown; as I topped the big hill with it's panoramic view of Downtown, I saw the most haze I've ever seen around the city. The thinnest spires of the Batman building were almost totally obscured by pollution. I've seen low clouds blot out those spires before, but I've never seen raw pollution do it.

  4. The interstates had air pollution warnings up on over head signs this last weekend. Pretty crazy.
