Americans United Calls for IRS Scrutiny of Church Hosting Today's Ford/Clinton Rally

Originally published at Free Tennessee:

The director of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State calls for an Internal Revenue Service investigation of today's rally at Memphis' Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ, which features senatorial candidate Harold Ford, Jr. and former president Bill Clinton. Barry Lynn alleges that the church may be violating the tax codes against political advocacy in at least two ways:
  • Inviting Ford to speak, but not inviting his rival Bob Corker
  • Spending church money (for the cost of rent, extra security, and utilities) on the rally
