CRIME ALERT: Burglars Use Police Scanner During Attempted Heist

According to the Salemtown e-mail list, there was an attempted break-in of a townhouse at 1600 6th Ave. yesterday (Sunday) at about 8:30 p.m. while owners were away. Residents of a separate townhouse noticed suspicious activity at the back of the shared building and called the police. The perpetrators had a police scanner so they were alerted and fled before officers arrived. Owners had received a call from their security monitoring service that power to the house had been cut off. There are indications that the townhouse has been cased by the burglars and that they tried to enter through a front window before notification of the police arrival drove them off.

While this is, of course, a great concern to neighbors in Salemtown, all neighborhood leaders should be aware that there are burglars out there willing to listen in on the police to cue them as they attempt the crimes. Keep your eyes open for any suspicious activity and err on the side of calling the police whenever you see it.

  1. Lots of activity going on lately in S-town. Thanks for the alert.

Our neighbor was robbed on christmas eve (they took his flat screen tv right out the front door, and no one noticed), yesterday the police raided the house behind us for reasons unknown to me and then last night we had a raid of police banging on our door at 2am looking for some guy named Andrew who apparently is using our address as his place of residence.
