North End Neighborhoods Working Together on Tuesday's Night Out Against Crime

From this morning's Tennessean:
in North Nashville, four neighborhood associations — Buena Vista, Hope Gardens, Salemtown and Germantown — have joined to coordinate a walk to the Bicentennial Mall.

Each group will leave its neighborhood at 6 p.m. and gather for a party at the future home of the Museum of African American Music, Art and Culture.

And from the Salemtown e-mail list:
SNNA is meeting at the 4th Avenue North and Hume corner of Morgan Park at 6 p.m. Our plan is to have a procession North up 4th, South down 5th, North up 6th, and South down 7th to Hume, where we'll cut over to Rosa L. Parks and head South to the corner of Jefferson and Rosa L. Parks to convene with the other neighborhoods.

We'll be leaving promptly, so if you don't see anyone at the meeting location, just try to catch up with the procession as we cross through the neighborhood. Feel free to join as we pass your house.

There will be live music at Bicentennial Mall, and Zackie's will be providing hot dogs for the event.

  1. While it's a nice idea, it would have been nice if they could have given a bit more notice. The first I heard about it was an email from HGN at noon today.

  2. Kim: Hope Gardens seems to have their act together on this score. Communication at their social networking (ning) site seems to fire consistently and well in advance of events. Members also have authorization to blog there.

As you are well aware, Germantown actually limited its ability to communicate by shutting down its neighborhood blog earlier this year. However, Joel at Madison Square Homeowners Association does a great job of using one of Germantown's only hyper-local blogs (http://madisonsquarehoa.blogspot.com/) and Drink Haus keeps up with some hyper-local news (http://drinkhaus.blogspot.com/), although it seems dependent on HGI to convey info in a timely matter, too.

    Salemtown's website is simply ineffective.
