I'm not sure who is behind the curtain, but it obviously that they are pulling Megan Barry's strings. If she is elected mayor, we will see the same good ole boys (and maybe a few good ole girls) screwing the taxpaying citizens just like Dean did,

And with Colby Sledge running for Council, it will be more of next generation Dean's boys at the helm. The fairgrounds will be on the auction block again, you can bet your paycheck.

Wish some real ordinary citizens with true respect for the people would run for mayor and council. Otherwise, we are back to where we started.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10635442.post-80178090034080197862014-12-05T16:37:36.586-06:002014-12-05T16:37:36.586-06:00Poor writing by Anon above, who was me. If you re-read and replace "you" in the last sentence with "our government," it reads as intended.

mea culpa
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10635442.post-27351488522646520022014-12-04T12:46:45.698-06:002014-12-04T12:46:45.698-06:00I am a taxpayer and a stakeholder in Metro service...I am a taxpayer and a stakeholder in Metro services--funded by the Metro budget--who has been asked to consider the merits of the Bridgestone funding package, which is said to have a number of benefits, one of which (as listed by boosters) is the donation to Metro Schools.

I did not dig that proposed donation up. It was offered for consideration as a virtual quid pro quo in order to mute opposition. You might consider going after the boosters instead of me.

Otherwise, I considered it on the merits within the context of the proposal, and it came up wanting in my book.

I guess that's who I am.S-townMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05948307051485318061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10635442.post-18778274782951988532014-12-04T12:35:57.565-06:002014-12-04T12:35:57.565-06:00I dislike the fact that corporate donations come i...I dislike the fact that corporate donations come into the equation and discussion. You highlight the amount as one issue.

The more important issue is that government should not be "pay for play." Tax break, no tax break...the transaction should be evaluated on its merits and should not be swayed by what is, essentially, a history of off-the-books giving. That the donations may be stopped is, of course, possible.

Our government should not encourage a tiered system based on voluntary contributions to favored groups.

What if Bridgestone donated $150,000/year to the Country Music Marathon? The National Baptist Convention? Friends of Warner Park? McCabe Little League? Catholic Charities?

Who are you to decide which charities are worthy of extra consideration in the political process?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
