I
calculated my Jeep Wrangler's emissions per year, based on mileage, and found that it actually qualifies for a
Hybrid rather than an SUV
TerraPass. I only use 205 gallons of gas per year. There are definitely environmental benefits to living and working intown and putting less than 5,000 miles per year on my vehicle.
Thanks for the reminder about this: I've been meaning to sign up and now I finally have. Yay!
ReplyDeleteSomething doesnt make sense here. 205 gallons for 5,000 miles works out to about 24mpg. The site says hybrids are 41+mpg.
ReplyDeleteDo you really get that kind of mileage driving in town? The numbers on the Terra Pass website for a 2006 Wrangler show something well under 20 for city driving.
How do you do it?
My Wrangler is 5 years old and has a little over 23,000 mi on it. The TerraPass calculation allows either 4,000 (hybrid) or 6,000 (economy) mi per year, not 5,000. Since my annual mileage is actually closer to 4,000 than to 6,000, I rounded down to hybrid. But it doesn't hurt if you want to call my SUV an economy car, either, although I need 7,000 more miles to put me squarely in the economy category.
