Nashville Bicentennial: Kirk Whalum, a Jazzy Sax, and Fireworks Open Our Public Square

Nashville opened its new Public Square this afternoon with a huge birthday cake, ice cream, and lots of music to enjoy. The Mayor and the Vice Mayor spoke (Howard Gentry even nodded to Mayor Purcell's emphasis on neighborhoods) and fireworks exploded overhead. The high point for me was Kirk Whalum's smooth rendition of the Tennessee Waltz. A little more than a minute in you may notice some well-known Germantowners in the frame who are probably absorbed in a chat about architecture and urban form rather than listening to some fine jazz. The fireworks actually start a little over two minutes in while Whalum is still working his magic. I won't be distracted by the pyrotechnics in the sky until the music ends.
