One Last Metro Council Push for "Infrastructure" Earmarks, Part II

In keeping with their track record of shunting tax dollars away from public services in order to support and patronize private non-profit organizations, the agenda has its share of earmarks going to the private sector. Given recent trends in these requests, expect no debate and quick passage, even of the $15,000 to a Baptist Church.

Here are what may be the last bunch of non-profit earmarks for 2006-2007:

• $1,000 to support unspecified services of the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville (Greg Atkins)
• $2,000 to support operational costs of homeless services of the Campus for Human Development (Jim Shulman)
• $2,000 to provide general mentoring support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee (Lynn Williams)
• $2,500 to support operational costs of the Interdenominational Ministers' Fellowship Peniel Initiative (Sam Coleman)
• $3,000 for the costs of informational materials, postage, and printing for the Brain Injury Association of Tennessee, Inc. (Coleman, Parker Toler)
• $5,000 for operational costs of meals to St. Luke's Community House Episcopal, Inc. (Billy Joe Walls)
• $5,000 for operational costs of 2nd Chances (Carolyn Baldwin Tucker)
• $9,750 for senior activities at Northwest Senior Center and Donelson Senior Center (Williams, J.B. Loring)
• $10,000 for Relief Fund of the American Red Cross (Jim Forkum)
• $15,000 for outreach ministries of St. John Missionary Baptist Church (Toler, Coleman)
