Wilson County Suit Regarding Proselytizing Begins This Week, Unless a Settlement is Reached on Tuesday

According to e-mails sent out to the local branch of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a settlement may be in the offing in the ACLU's lawsuit against a Wilson County Public School. Originally, the trial was set to start Tuesday, December 11 at 9:00 a.m. in the Federal Courthouse in Downtown Nashville (Broadway) over what one Wilson County resident called the "Christianization" of government.

Now comes word that the trial has been postponed until Wednesday (12/12) because there is a conference scheduled between the attorneys for both sides of the suit with the hope of settling out of court (by means of a consent order). AU reports that a new principal and superintendent of schools seem willing to agree on a consent order. However, the Wilson County Commissioners, who meet on Tuesday evening, have to approve any settlement, so the case could still proceed on Wednesday.
