Michael Cass underscores how the 2007 Karl Dean campaign stretched "
best effort" to mean "the slightest, half-assed effort." How can a major mayoral candidate have staffers unsure of the occupations of some of Nashville's major players giving him major sums of money?
Campaigns are so fast-paced and often the financial reporting done each quarter is not the most pressing issue so things get overlooked. Staffers are sometimes non-locals who do not have a underlying lay of the land and the major (or even minor) players.
