English Only Poll a Lot Closer Than I Thought It Might Be

Even with a large margin of error, the finding that Davidson County voters might split almost evenly on Eric Crafton's English Only referendum is surprising:

The Tennessean commissioned Lansing, Mich.-based Mitchell Research & Communications Inc. to survey 200 voters on local issues last week. They were asked about the English-only measure and a possible state takeover of Metro Nashville schools because of poor student performance. The margin of error was plus or minus 6 percent.

Forty-seven percent of those polled said they would oppose or lean toward opposing a measure that would bar Metro government agencies from translating written materials into other languages or offering interpreters to the public. Forty-six percent of voters indicated they would support the measure, and 7 percent didn't know or declined to answer.

I wonder if there is something wrong with the poll methodology. If not, then Eric Crafton has a fight on his hands.
