To
prohibit or not prohibit alcohol at after-hours clubs is a moot question. The
post-hippie, proto-Disco beginnings of dance culture infused with funk and jazz started in "underground, but legal" NYC house and
garage parties that did not include alcohol, but did include a space of freedom for black and white, gay and straight self-expression. Clubs are great because of the music. Booze is an afterthought, more money-maker than necessity.
