For daring to lead an organization that opposed the Mayor's pet convention center project, Kevin Sharp was targeted by Dean (and Bredesen?) backers who started a petition against his nomination for a federal judgeship. The petition's list of 102 signers are currently hidden. But according to a media blog, signers of the petition included convention center lobbyist and Democratic Party consultant Dave Cooley, Cooley's associate Mark Brown (also well-known in party circles), Convention and Visitors Bureau president Butch Spyridon, and Marc Barclay, husband of convention center lobbyist Krissa Barclay.


I was impressed to see that their attempt to punish him for his impertinence to the order of things in Davidson County ultimately failed with Monday's announcement from Kevin Sharp's legal firm about his unanimous confirmation:

By a vote of 89-0, this afternoon the United States Senate confirmed Drescher & Sharp founding partner, Kevin H. Sharp, to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. Sharp was nominated in November 2010 by President Barack Obama and enjoyed the endorsement of Vice President Al Gore and both U.S. Senators from the State of Tennessee.

As impressive as this accomplishment is, it is still underscores how risky questioning the Dean Machine is. The attack dogs will attempt to intimidate or thwart any inconvenient critics.
