Lame logic

The past couple of days I've been surprised to hear the rationalization that we can put an end to overgrown, garbage-strewn vacant lots by just supporting whatever a developer proposes to build on them.

Actually, no. We can put an end to overgrown, garbage-strewn vacant lots by holding the lot owners accountable for keeping their grass cut shorter than 12 inches and for picking up litter on a regular basis. We can report them to Metro Codes when they fail to live up to the same obligation that we all have to cut our grass and pick up litter on our properties.

Making excuses for property owners to shirk the obligations that attach to having land is a cop out that practically ignores the quality of life of the neighborhood.
