Will What We Become Even Be Worth Protecting Anymore?

Even police may be involved in infilitration and surveillance of American groups who question Bush Administration policies. What will we have gained if we protect every American life from terrorist threats but lose the very First Amendment rights that terrorists hate us for exercising in the first place?
