So much for the idea that council members are nonpartisan candidates. Karen Bennett sent out invitations to a fundraiser sponsored by doctrinaire conservatives like Jim Gotto, Ron Ramsey, Jim Hodge, Robin Smith, and Lee Beaman.
Bennett is the council member who encouraged her constituents to call her rather than send her written mail on the nondiscrimination bill to avoid having their identities outed by open records requests. She also curiously told people that she did not keep names and address of constituents who called even though that would mean she had no way of verifying that they were in fact her constituents.
She's seems as committed to transparency as she is to nondiscrimination, which is to say, "Not very."
