Again, A Thank-You Would Be Nice

When I voted for Barack Obama during the Tennessee primary (even though I was an Edwards-leaning voter), all I asked from the hard-core Obama supporters was to stop crowing long enough to say, "Thanks."

Now they owe John Edwards himself thanks for taking any populist steam left from yesterday's Clinton victory out of her wide West Virginia margin. Not only will Edwards' delegates now likely all vote for Obama, but the only true populist who ran for President this year endorses Barack Obama tonight. That's a timely boost.

What started in Indiana as a shift away from Clinton is now momentum chugging fully toward Obama, who will clearly be the next Democratic nominee for President, soon and well before the convention.

  1. It really was an amazingly-timed endorsement... it TOTALLY shifted the coverage. I was watching MSNBC this afternoon when it was announced and up to that point they were talking about Obama's inability to connect and how Hilary had a chance, but right when the endorsement came in they shifted to how that would help him get those he didn't have, Hilary was dead, yadda yadda yadda. It was amazing.

  2. Beating McCain in November is all the thanks I require.

  3. Because there are not enough seasoned grassroots people in the BO campaign, they don't know that it's about building relationships over time and not just winning this campaign. The MSM and new Obama folks have done a lot of damage acting without grace and gratitude and what they will reap is yet to be seen. Political relations have a long life cycle.

  4. That lack of seasoning is one of the reasons why they keep claiming that what they are doing is unique and has never been done before. I've blogged on the IAF connections of the Obama campaign which are more rare compared to conventional politics, but even IAF networks have been tapped as long as that organization has been around.

It's like they don't have a concept of standing on the shoulders of those who came before them. Or as Ann Richard put it: being born on third base and believing that you hit a triple. There's no room for acting as if you got there on your own, and I agree there will likely be harsh payback in the future when the enthusiasm of more seasoned groups is needed. I blogged on behalf of Obama a lot less than I otherwise would have because of the arrogance and self-righteousness of the campaign and its supporters.

  5. I am floored at the arrogance displayed on this blog. Why should anyone deserve gratitude for the way they vote? You have the right to vote because of hundreds of thousands of people who have come before us to lay down their lives to protect that right. And here you are acting like Obama's going to crumble and fall without your vote or your blog support. Laughable.

Having said that, I'm sure Obama appreciates all of the votes and support he gets. His whole campaign is organized around getting more and more people with the right to vote involved in the democratic process and it's working extremely well. However, don't act like you're doing him a favor. Act like you're proud to be an American citizen who has a role in electing the officials who manage our government.

  6. I've already covered this territory w/you anon.

I will say that if I assumed arrogance on another blogger's part, I wouldn't be revisiting their website the 40 or 50 times that my statcounter says you are coming back to Enclave recently. That would only seem to encourage said arrogance.

  7. But I like your blog. If I was scared away by arrogance, dumb comments, misguided progressivity and other silly things, I might as well just terminate my internet connection. While you may appreciate that effort, that will not happen!

As it is, I enjoy reading your rants just like I enjoy reading and listening to a whole host of other media. You're informed and knowledgeable about a lot of topics that interest me, and a good writer too. Don't get all upset that I'm in the passenger seat which gives me the ability to not reveal my identity while at the same time bashing your words. If that upsets you, then terminate YOUR internet connection. :)
