Cavalcade of Capitalists: Metro Sends Out an Alert about Deed Scam Entrepreneurs

The Register of Deeds Office is broadcasting an homeowners' alert against the private company National Deed Service, which sends out mass mailings advertising a $59.50 service to obtain the same deed that consumers can obtain directly from Metro for $1.00 per copied page. According to a NewsChannel5 report tonight, a reporter sent $59.50 for a deed to National Deed Service a month ago and she still has not obtained a copy. However, she went down to the Sommet Center and in a manner of minutes picked a copy up for $2.00. She also found out that she could have requested a copy by phone by calling Metro rather than driving Downtown.

National Deed Service is sending out their advertisement on what looks like official, government-like copy, and they are preying on holes in people's informed consent in the process. Don't become National Deed Service's next victim.

UPDATE: A Memphis report from last fall on the National Deed Service scam.
