Faith-based Community Organization Focuses Anger at $700 Billion Wall Street Bail Out
A Bay Area (California) organization of English and Spanish speaking churches met to call for a systematic approach to dealing with the mortgage crisis: requiring banks that receive bailout money to adopt protocols like lowering interest rates and reducing mortgage balances to make payments affordable. PICO, People Improving Communities Through Organizing, webcast the meeting to 20 cities along the PICO network of 1,000 congregations nationwide. Similar events will be held in Missouri, Florida, New York, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C.
