I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities.Lest this leave you with the impression that Ms. Palin's first job was Mayor, it was not. She was a sports desk reporter for a local television station. She was serving her community by extensive recitation of "Sunday Night Sports Bloopers" and the Iditarod dog-sled results instead of being involved daily in the life of building neighborhood organizations and defending communities. A talking head and a teleprompter seems like a curious equation for service. I guess it paid the bills.
UPDATE: Yep. She skipped right over her sports desk work. She went from hockey mom to PTA to Mayor. Here is a video of Sarah Palin working the sports desk for a local TV station:
