And it's never too late to start long-term planning for future obligations, Mr. Councilman
CM Robert Duvall warned the Council tonight that before approving acceptance of federal stimulus funds for Metro Police for three years, they needed to be aware that Metro Nashville would be required to pay $10 million for the program the 4th year. A Metro lawyer countered that it would be closer to $8 million. I would counter, "What's the option?" Rejecting three years worth of federal funding that would strengthen our police force? That doesn't sound like a good option to me, especially with mayoral budget cuts this year that would kill programs and take cops off our streets.
