The Days of Weeping over the Demolition of Ebbets Field are Gone
This post has me wondering: have money and power (which Habermas would call system "steering mechanisms") so uncoupled professional sports from local lifeworlds that we will see a day when teams move fluidly across borders for periods of time to maximize the fluctuation of currency and GNP? In such a world, Nashvillians could never love their Predators like Brooklyn loved its Dodgers, because there could never be anything uniquely local about the club.
