Immunity Was Never about Helping Telecoms Report Possible Terrorist Activity

This one is for all of those whose eyes glaze over when retroactive immunity debates start up and for those who insist that the corporations need a special shield from prosecution lest they refuse to give info about actual terrorists up. Telecom immunity is first and foremost an effort to protect the Bush Administration's past misbehavior.

So, if you like the idea of letting the Bush Administration shamelessly comb through innocent people's records, then glaze away or speak up for telecom immunity. If you believe in the fundamental, inalienable and universal right of innocent people to privacy and from state surveillance, then speak against it.

It's that simple, or at least the Bush Administration has plainly made it that simple. There are still ways the world is not different after 9/11.
