Alexander and Corker Back Up Big Oil

In a follow-up to his earlier report on how the Tennessee House delegations voted on the Energy Bill before Congress, R. Neal observes that the bill stalled in the Senate, where Tennessee Republican Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker both voted to continue the Republican filibuster of it.

Republicans may always defend Exxon's millions, but I thought they were the guys who also always demanded an up-or-down vote on bills over filibustering them. Does this mean we should not believe them when they demand a "simple up-or-down vote" or that Big Oil's money is so influential that it occasions the abdication of one's principles?

UPDATE: Looks like the Tennessee Republicans also voted to stunt southeastern economic development by voting against the Energy Bill. See Facing South after the jump.
