Baby, It's Good News

Judge tells Fisk that Alfred Stieglitz Collection to stay and that the university has 7 months to renovate the Carl Van Vechten Gallery for display or art returns to O'Keefe Estate in New Mexico. Time for Fisk to move to Plan B or lose the art and be left empty handed.

  1. I hope it's good news, but it will only be good news if Fisk is willing to reach out to the community. I've had my [modestly endowed] checkbook at the ready for years if anyone were to call for contributions to keep this treasure in Nashville; the Schermerhorn showed that an alliance of Big Money and a host of small but enthusiastic contributers [including, in that case, me] could do a great deal. If I were in charge of Fisk, I'd see the Stieglitz Collection as an opportunity to pitch the University's enormous value to the community. Not only should they fix the Van Vechten, but they should get the art itself out of storage and on exhibit at the Frist so that the community can see what it has and may lose. I'll give to help that happen; but I'd like to see some organized effort with firm backing from the monied elite and assurance that my contribution will be effective.
