Blogger Beats the Local Media to Expose Eric Crafton's Lie

Blogger Sean Braisted acted on a tip from blogger Southern Beale and called California's Assembly Clerk to debunk Eric Crafton's claim that he observed several Assembly Members who kept interpreters at their desks because they could not speak English.

The New York Times reporter, Robbie Brown, failed to do what it took Sean a few minutes to do: confirm or deny the veracity of Crafton's claim. The media merely published it and left it for readers to interpret it as true. Moreover, no local mainstream media who conveyed Crafton's message followed up with the State of California to verify.

Say what you will about bloggers. Sometimes you need them to do what journalists will not do.
