Isn't this the same PR and press pitched about George W. Bush in the run-up to the 2000 election? He surrounds himself and manages good people is not necessarily the strongest selling point for a president in my book.
I don't disagree that the *spin* sounds the same. I would say that one difference is that Obama demonstrably DOES manage his people well. A second would be that they are actually good (for example, I think Axelrod has shown himself to be quite talented).
Bush hasn't so much managed people as he has appointed them and then not given that appointment another thought. And as a variety of scandals and general f-ups have demonstrated, many of these great folks, in the end, weren't so great.
