Manifest Destiny's Child Regurgitates Urban Myth

During an interview this morning, Mayoral Candidate Bob Clement coughed up and reheated the urban myth that property taxes are driving people out of Nashville, even as demand to live in Nashville is increasing, not decreasing. That myth also ignores that fact that people move out of the city for lots of different reasons, including perceptions of security and the quality of education, both of which are services that require more rather than less revenue. This hot crossed candidate should be very careful about appearing to run down Nashville's popularity, attractiveness, and high-demand status, lest he appear to be a real Debby Downer about our community.

  1. Property taxes ARE running people out of the county. Including Metro employees. Old Purcell and Dean must be laughing it up as cops and firefighters move out of Nashville trying to find a decent place to live, and at the same time giving up the right to vote when those two cut Metro employees' benefits.

  2. Anonymous commenters can take on mythic proportions, too, I see. Just put down the kool-aid.
